About Us

Four generations of specialist pool restoration

Fibreglaze is a family-owned pool resurfacing, renovation and repair business serving Queensland and New South Wales. Our history reaches back to Sydney in 1963; today the business is overseen by Josh, Ben and Jesse Donovan.
FAMILY OWNED SINCE 1963

A family business shaped by decades in fibreglass

Fibreglaze’s history reaches back to Sydney in 1963, when the business worked with fibreglass interiors for new concrete pools. Over time, that experience expanded into the resurfacing, restoration, repair and renovation of ageing pools.

Pool restoration has never been only about colour. The pool’s construction, retained finish, earlier repairs, access and the condition revealed after emptying all influence what work is appropriate.

For many years, Lance Smith and Craig Donovan led the family business. Today Craig’s sons—Josh, Ben and Jesse—oversee its operations, with members of the next generation now involved.

OUR STORY IN FOUR CHAPTERS

Specialist knowledge built over time

The business has grown across generations, but the practical focus has remained consistent: understand the pool that is already there, prepare it properly and explain the work in customer language.

1
1963

Beginnings in Sydney

Fibreglaze’s history began with fibreglass interiors for new concrete pools, establishing the material knowledge that still underpins the business.

2
SPECIALISATION

From new interiors to restoration

The work broadened into moulded fibreglass pools, existing concrete-based finishes, renovation of ageing interiors and larger commercial projects.

3
FAMILY CONTINUITY

The business passed forward

Lance Smith and Craig Donovan led the family business for many years. The next generation now oversees day-to-day operations and the teams delivering the work.

4
TODAY

Servicing QLD, NSW and beyond

Fibreglaze completes residential and strata work across its core service areas, with regional and national commercial projects considered according to scope, access and program.

FAMILY OWNED, PRACTICALLY MINDED

Continuity should be visible in how the work is handled

Heritage is useful only when it supports clear assessment, accountable decisions and consistent workmanship on the pool in front of us.

1

A clear line of responsibility

Assessment, planning, site work and handover should connect. The existing pool and any material scope changes need to be explained in plain language.

2

Specialist local crews

Fibreglaze employs local teams whose work centres on pool preparation, repairs, reinforced fibreglass linings and finishes.

3

No fixed answer before exposure

Photographs can guide an initial review, but concealed defects and the final preparation scope may only become clear after controlled emptying and inspection.

OUR APPROACH

Start with the pool construction and condition—not a standard recipe

Two pools can look similar from above the waterline and still require different preparation or repair work. The starting point is the existing construction, finish, visible defects, earlier repairs, access and surrounding site conditions.

An initial review helps identify the likely pathway. The final process is confirmed after the pool is emptied under planned conditions once the interior has been inspected properly.

Identify the existing pool construction and interior finish.

Review visible defects, earlier repairs, access and site conditions.

Plan emptying and inspection with groundwater, fittings and surroundings in mind.

Confirm preparation and repair needs after the interior is exposed.

Install the agreed lining and finish, then provide handover guidance.

WHERE WE WORK

South East QLD and Northern NSW, with selected regional work

Fibreglaze’s core service area includes Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Northern New South Wales. Projects farther afield are considered individually.

Distance is only one factor. Pool size, construction, access, accommodation, program and the likely work scope all affect whether regional travel is practical.

CORE SERVICE AREAS

Regular service coverage

Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Northern New South Wales, subject to current scheduling and the requirements of each project.

REGIONAL & COMMERCIAL PROJECTS

Considered case by case

Regional Queensland and New South Wales work, and national Commercial project work, is assessed against the pool, site access, travel logistics and program rather than promised as blanket coverage.

NEXT STEP

Start with the pool you have now

Explore the resurfacing routes for different existing pool interiors, see the five-stage process and review completed work. An initial conversation can guide the next step; the final scope still depends on inspection and the condition revealed after emptying.
